Euro 2024 Group E: Romania vs Ukraine - 2pm BST

Kicking off day four are Romania and Ukraine, in what should be a tight encounter between two teams who have never made it past the quarter finals stage in this tournament.

Ukraine had a successful campaign last time out at Euro 2020 in reaching the quarter finals before being comfortably beaten by England, while Romania missed that tournament and are looking to make it out of the groups for the first time since Euro 2000.

The last three meetings between the two teams, albeit all of them being friendlies, have had a whopping 16 goals! They met most recently in 2016 when Ukraine were 4-3 winners, and a repeat of that eight years on would almost undoubtedly result in the game of the group stage at Euro 2024.

Euro 2024 Group E: Belgium vs Slovakia - 5pm BST

It’s been a topsy-turvy few years for Belgium, having been unable to really produce in the big moments despite having such a fantastic squad from 2014 until 2020, and it all eventually culminating in an embarrassing showing at the 2022 World Cup. However they are, as you would expect, strong favourites for Belgium vs Slovakia, who had a successful qualifying campaign, losing only twice to Portugal on both occasions.

With a fairly new-look Belgium squad compared to what we have become accustomed to, even though Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku remain, it will be interesting to see how far they go at Euro 2024. Firstly though, they will need to get past Slovakia, who will be no easy task in their opening game with their resolute defence that includes Inter Milan’s Milan Skriniar.

Euro 2024 Group D: France vs Austria - 8pm BST

There’s absolutely no doubt that, on paper, the game of the day comes in the final game between France and Austria. If there is any game in the group stage that looks likely for goals, it’s this one. And with France having been involved in both some high scoring encounters recently and in previous tournaments, don’t expect that to stop at Euro 2024.

Austria will be raring to go in their opening game even though they are up against the favourites, heading into their matchup with France off the back of a seven game unbeaten run, including scalps against Germany and a heavy win against Turkey.

It’s hard to imagine they will be a match for France with all of their firepower up front and strength across the backline in midfield, but they will be pleased to be meeting them before they have been able to gain any momentum.
