Euro 2024 Favourites: Who Will Win Euro 2024?

England sit atop the betting market for Euro 2024, meaning they are considered the favourites for the upcoming tournament by the bookmakers. But does that mean that they are considered favourites by everyone else?

It’s well known that just because a team is favourites to win the Euros or World Cup, it certainly does not always translate to them winning the competition. Even just a couple of years ago at the 2022 World Cup, Argentina were considered third favourites by the bookmakers. But pre-tournament, a lot of people were predicting they would be victorious considering the long unbeaten streak they had going, suggesting views can often be different by bettors and bookmakers.

Moreover, a lot can depend on a team’s route to the final, of which England have typically had some easier runs in recent years, and generally on how they evolve and progress throughout the tournament. Yet we are talking about an England team who have just one win in their last five, should that be a worry? In our opinion, it’s definitely a concern, especially when you take a look at the performances considering their attacking talent and scoring just one against North Macedonia and Iceland.

On top of that, it could be said they almost have an overload of ability in attack, which could cause a headache in who to pick for Gareth Southagte for Euro 2024. However, time for experimenting is now over and despite it being a slight issue they have one win in five, four of those were friendlies and one was a dead rubber in Euro 2024 qualifying. If there was ever a time that England were going to win a major tournament, it has to be now or within the next few years when they have such a magnificent squad to pick from.

The level of this England team has been shown across the last few tournaments they have played in, easily sweeping aside teams below them in the rankings and making it to the latter stages of every major tournament since 2018. Is it finally time they picked up their first international trophy since 1966?

It is yet to be seen whether this England team can step up and win those big matches, against the likes of France, Germany, Spain, or even the likes of the Netherlands, but there is arguably no better time for them to do so than Euro 2024.

France To Win Euro 2024 - 4/1 with bet365

Since being hosts of Euro 2016, France have looked likely to win any major tournament, reaching the final in three out of four of them, and of course winning the World Cup in 2018 in Russia. This is why it is no surprise they are joint favourites and can be found at 4/1 with bet365 and some other bookmakers to win the tournament.

But the tournament that has seemed to give them the most difficulty is the Euros, with star man Kylian Mbappe even noting in the build-up to the tournament that he has found it more difficult to win than the World Cup.

Such is the quality of their team that William Saliba, arguably the Premier League’s best defender over the last two seasons, is likely to be second choice at centre back throughout the tournament.

There have often been question marks about Didier Deschamps’ style of play and its negativity, but would you prefer results or beautiful, attacking football? It would be imagined that France’s fans would most definitely take winning their first European Championship since 2000, even if it means sacrificing some enjoyment.

Germany To Win Euro 2024 - 11/2 with 10bet

If we were to be talking about Germany just a year ago, nobody would have them this high in the betting heading into Euro 2024. Following a disastrous World Cup campaign in 2022 where they were dumped out in the groups, Germany suffered defeats to Poland, Belgium, Colombia, Austria, and Japan in 2023, as well as draws with Ukraine and Mexico. 

But, following the arrival of Julian Nagelsmann in late 2023, Germany finally appear to be back on the straight and narrow. Three wins in four in 2024 including victories against both France and the Netherlands might be a small sample to look at, but they are undoubtedly a stronger proposition than what they looked to be by the end of 2023.

What also plays a huge role in Germany being best priced at 11/2 with 10bet for Euro 2024 is the fact that they are hosts of the tournament, something which has proved to be important in the last two tournaments. As we already mentioned, France were able to reach the Euro 2016 final as hosts, while England reached the Euro 2020 final playing the majority of their games in England, illustrating just how influential it can be.

Florian Wirtz, voted Bundesliga player of the season, is likely to be the star man for the Germans on home turf, while Kai Havertz had a strong season for title challenging Arsenal and Antonio Rudiger has been the standout defender for an impressive Real Madrid. 

Overall, they may lack strength in depth compared to the other two nations, but Germany could pick up another international trophy just 10 years on from their last when they lifted the World Cup in 2014.
